I don’t exactly watch a lot of women’s college basketball, but when it comes to the University of Maryland Terrapins, I’m a fan of all their sports. Considering that the men’s team and the football team have been pretty awful the past two years, the women’s team is the only one with a legitimate chance at the National Championship. This year, they hope to repeat as champions and retain the title and are ranked #1 in the preseason poll by ESPN/USA Today. I watched last season’s tournament and it was pretty awesome and this year they’ll be back at it with every player from last year.
On the men’s side they sit outside of the top 25, but are at least within the top 40 schools in the nation. With Nik Caner-Medley and Chris McCray graduating, they are only left with Ekene Ibekwe, DJ Strawberry, and Mike Jones to pick up the slack along with James Gist, some bench-warmers from last year, and four incoming freshmen. Will this be the year that some of the new guys become Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, and Lonny Baxter?
