If you didn’t stay up late enough last night, you probably missed the amazing 4x100 freestyle relay featuring New Jersey’s own Cullen “Black Lightning” Jones. The French team was apparently talking some smack about the Americans and promptly lost to the combination of Phelps, Black Lightning, Anchorman, and The Other Guy. Some might even say this group and the USA Basketball team are both called the “Redeem Team”. After winning the event every year and then losing in 2000 and 2004, the USA finally took back the gold with a world record time of 3:08.24 bringing USA’s medal count to 12.
Speaking of redeeming, immediately after I posted that India is so nonathletic and barely does anything in the Olympics, Abhinav Bindra goes out and wins a gold in the 10-meter air rifle. I’d have to say that’s pretty amazing and should even give this man his own day on the Indian calendar. Considering that they were so terrible before, it’s not a shock that a billion people in India are quickly becoming interested in the Olympics. Maybe if they had a category in Olympic Bollywood dancing they would have a couple more golds, but Joshua and Katee might have something to say about that.
For another upcoming dark horse medal candidate, I’m going to have to go with another New Jerseyan in 44 year old David Zhuang as he goes for the gold in Men’s Table Tennis on Wednesday. He apparently teaches table tennis in West Windsor and emigrated from China to the United States back in 1990. Although because he’s still a Chinese guy, he seems like a bit of a ringer for Team USA, but then again without him they wouldn’t even qualify.

And if you weren’t paying attention on Sunday, NBA on NBC is back (even if it’s only for a few weeks). If you were a 90’s kid, you know what I’m talking about when John Tesh’s “Roundball Rock” comes on. It definitely brings you right back to the “Golden Era” of basketball. Even though China lost to the USA by 31 points, it was still a good showing by the Chinese and a sign that the USA basketball is on the right track back to domination.

I have no idea how you ended up incorporating a So You Think You Can Dance video into this blog post.
