Beijing Olympics + Satellite + Internet = Win

After years of waiting, on 8/8/08, the 2008 Beijing Olympics are here!  Now I have to say, I was really impressed with the opening ceremony even though President Bush looked a little bored after sitting there for 4.5 hours.  If you haven’t seen it yourself, you really need to see it in HD since it’s spectacular.

The Dark Knight Theatre Report

The Dark Knight

In the third weekend of this summer’s biggest blockbuster picture, The Dark Knight is continuing to set box office records every day.  I finally got a chance to see it after missing out on it for the first two weekends.  Fortunately, I got in on a Fandango / American Express promotion for free tickets, so I decided the time was right to see what all the hype is about.  Apparently Reading Cinemas in Manville, NJ (about twice as far as my usual theatre) was the closest one that accepted Fandango tickets.  Because of that, I arrived about 15 minutes late to the 2:00 PM show and missed out on all the previews and a few minutes of the film itself.  I ended up sitting pretty close (about 8 rows from the front), but made sure to get a center seat for the best available view.  As usual, I smuggled in a pack of Green Apple Mentos to keep me going throughout the film.

Hi Buddy! Welcome Rusty!

Since I had a few Amazon $10 discounts left, I took a look through their best sellers and came upon some Webkinz.  I’m still a kid and I know my niece Ashley has a few, so I said, “Why not?  I’d love to have one of those, but only if they have a panda or red panda.”  Unfortunately the closest thing was way too puffy / furry / ugly, so out of the Amazon cart it went.

Webkinz Panda

Actually, most of the Webkinz available at Amazon are a bit on the puffy side.  Looking at the next best option, I went directly to the Beanie Baby.  Apparently they retire all the good ones within a year, so they don’t have a great selection now.  Fortunately, I found an entire list of all Beanie Babies ever created, but I’d have to go to eBay to get any of them at a reasonable price.  A couple of minutes of searching later, I went directly for my favorite animal, the red panda.  After a couple days of waiting for an eBay auction to end, I had a brand new Red Panda Beanie Baby named Rusty.

New Messenger Bag

So it’s the first real post up here in a long while after I got burnt out maintaining it all the time. I return with a few pictures of my new messenger bag that I recently bought from Amazon.com using a $10 off Prime promotion. It ended up costing $19.95, so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

The first two pictures are of my old messenger bag that my dad gave me before our vacation last year to California. It’s done a pretty good job for something we got for free. The new bag just has more pockets, padding, and divisions inside for better organization. It also has one of those shoulder / chest pads so it won’t hurt if I carry a lot of stuff inside.
