Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-02-28

  • First (and only) Jamaican of the Olympics spotted in ski cross. #
  • Eating some Pomegranate Blueberry Italian Ice for dessert. #
  • Finally broke $1 billion on the Hollywood Stock Exchange! Only took me…5 years. #
  • Yay snow! #
  • This snowstorm is a big disappointment. It’s just rain and it’s melting all the old snow. T_T #
  • Scott Hamilton is getting a little too excited about the triple axel-double toe loop combination. #
  • Excellent, they’re predicting 6-12 inches of snow tomorrow! #
  • I feel bad for Mr. Toyoda, he’s really getting grilled on Capitol Hill right now. #
  • Maybe I should have brought a shovel to work today… #
  • Kim Yu-Na was so dominant tonight that Mao Asada couldn’t come close. Maybe she’ll also get her silver upgraded to platinum like Plushenko. #
  • Just saw a snowplow stuck in the snow while driving to work. #
  • Going to miss curling since it’s over. Guess I’m going to have to turn into a hockey fan now. #

Olympic Curling

Maybe I should have put up some Olympic clips earlier because so many have piled up over the last week, but I’ll start with a bit of curling.  Since this is the first Winter Olympics where I can actually watch and record curling, I’ve found that it’s a very interesting game.  Except for the fact that Team USA (both men’s and women’s) stinks and are out of medal contention, it’s been a lot of fun eating dinner while watching the day’s recorded curling matches.  However the standouts have been the curling commentators, Don Dugrid and Colleen Jones.  Their insight has been simply exquisite.  They make you want to go out to your “local” curling club and start playing.  I’ve also found that there is quite a bit of yelling involved as seen in the clip below.

There are more intricacies to the game as well, but I’ll let Michael Scott explain.

One thing that I have to complain about with NBC’s coverage is that the streaming video is much much worse than the coverage for the 2008 Summer Olympics.  It’s practically non-existent unless you have premium NBC channels.  Even then you can only watch curling and hockey live.  I’m sure someone would like to see their favorite Indian skier finish 57.09 seconds off the pace in the Men’s Giant Slalom.  The other problem is NBC’s habit of tape delaying the popular sports to show in primetime. At least the upcoming short-track and ladies’ figure skating is mostly live (without tape delay, not live streaming).  Great job by Kim Yu-Na tonight though, that 007 James Bond music medley was much more exciting than the typical classical music everyone else picks.  The Pirates of the Caribbean music Mirai Nagasu picked was probably a close second.

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-02-21

  • Doing an unexpectedly high amount of work on a holiday. I’m supposed to be celebrating a couple of presidents today, right? #
  • Eating a coffee sponge cake with a whipped cream topping and cherries that someone brought into the office for Chinese New Year. #
  • Finally getting to watch a full match of Olympic Curling off my DVR. Still not sure why this isn’t a more popular sport… #
  • Very excited that the Starcraft II beta has begun…except that I didn’t get an invite yet. #
  • Going at it again with the hot chocolate coffee…this time with mini marshmallows. #
  • Watching curling, eating gummi bears, and drinking tea before going to sleep. #
  • Ow, I think I strained my shoulder grabbing for my bookmark after it fell behind my bed last night. #
  • Saw a co-worker putting fruit snacks on his salad today…interesting idea. #
  • Very pleased that honorary captain Vernon Davis (University of Maryland / SF 49ers) is supporting curling. USA men/women got wins today! #
  • Clutch wins today for the USA curling teams! There isn’t another sport in the Olympics close to the strategy and drama that curling has. #
  • The #1 moment is going to be tough to beat. RT: @MasterRen: Wackiest moments of the Games | NBC Olympics http://j.mp/9BumSX #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-02-14

  • Just came back from taking 271 photos for the Chinese school’s New Year’s celebration. #
  • This Undercover Boss show seems like an odd choice to follow the Super Bowl. It’s like Dirty Jobs, but without Mike Rowe…and not as funny. #
  • Actually it’s more like a cross between Candid Camera and Dirty Jobs with a hint of Extreme Makeover. Would rather have Amazing Race though. #
  • The principal of the Chinese school wants me to photoshop the missing school banner onto all 200+ photos I took… #
  • First attempt photoshopping the banner from last year’s source. Original: http://tinyurl.com/yajjvh8, Attempt #1: http://tinyurl.com/ydg36hh #
  • Attempt #2: http://tinyurl.com/ydwg4dq. Better source certainly makes it look a little more natural. #
  • Use Tea to Infuse Your Hot Chocolate with Flavor http://lifehacker.com/5425189/ I’m going to have to try this sometime. #
  • Blizzard #3 Detected! Most likely going to have to work from home tomorrow. #
  • Don’t think I’m going into work today. By the time I finished clearing the driveway, another 1/4 inch of snow accumulated. #
  • “We’re gonna leave you though with cross-country skiers in that prime cross-country skiing country…Brooklyn.” #
  • Hello Blizzard! Another 4 inches on the ground already. Good thing I cleared the driveway this morning or I’d be up to 8+ by now. #
  • Just tried out this new Google Buzz in Gmail…VERY unimpressed. Quite disappointing actually. #
  • Uh oh, I got all this jalapeño residue on my hands while preparing my sauteed vegetables…should have went with the Sriracha sauce instead. #
  • Almost got stuck in the snow on the way to work. Good thing my ninja driving skills saved me. #
  • Eating popcorn sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. #
  • Drinking a cup of coffee with a pack of hot chocolate. Quite tasty, but I almost have too much energy now. #
  • Decent Olympic opening by Canada…just not anywhere close to the Beijing opening ceremony. #
  • “Canada is the ‘what’ in ‘what’s new’.” #
  • Such a dominating heat for Ohno in short-track that he lapped a guy. #
  • Going to keep that 1500m short track final on my DVR. Amazing ending! #

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-02-07

  • Walking around NYC looking at apartments for my aunt (again). #
  • Eating 豆腐花 that I picked up in chinatown for dessert. #
  • Listening to the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack. Something about the out-of-tune piano/banjo that’s interesting…more than the movie itself. #
  • Enjoying some chinese crisp candies (almond, black sesame, peanut, etc.) I picked up from the asian food market. http://tinyurl.com/yhx88wf #
  • Quite excited to watch the LOST (final) season premiere tonight. Been avoiding any and all content about it since the end of last season. #
  • I think I read too much of The Lost Symbol last night. Quite worn out today. #
  • Becoming addicted to Yanni music. I still remember watching the Yanni Live at the Acropolis telethon fundraiser on PBS 15+ years ago. #
  • Just saw on CNBC showing football players a picture of Ben Bernanke…one guy thought he was Dr. Phil, another said he was Raj Rajaratnam. #
  • Snow in Washington DC detected: T-minus 4 hours until the next snowstorm arrives! #
  • Very disappointing amount of snow out there…barely any flurries at all. How do they expect to get 12 inches at this pace? #
  • (In a slow, deep Agent Smith voice) Mr. Snow, welcome back. We’ve missed you. #
  • Sad snow accumulation total: 6.5 inches #
