After a lengthy session of Halo 3 Tuesday night, I decided to tune into the last few minutes of the second presidential debate. For some reason it feels like they just avoid all the direct questions and just keep going around and around the issue until it sounds like they made a good point. I’m not a real big fan of politics myself, so the best thing I could pick up on was that Obama looked more comfortable without a podium than McCain. Also McCain is really really old, but that’s not really the issue here…or is it? If McCain dies of old age, we’ll be stuck with Palin. At least she has to be better than Dick Cheney. Where is that guy anyway? Maybe he’s trying out for the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team. And did anyone see that nobody in the “town hall” meeting was Asian? At least they could proportion the people somewhat close to the 5% of the population that Asians represent in the United States. In any case, here’s a little clip of Tom Brokaw that I thought was pretty funny.
This week brings us another quality Prison Break episode. It also brings us a couple great moments with Roland, Sucre, and of course T-Bag. I really like how they add in comedy without breaking from the serious tone of the series. They do a good job of insinuating one thought while the reality is another, and this works well with both how Michael solves puzzles as well as all the bits of comedy thrown in. Here’s a short compilation of Roland’s contribution this week.
Years ago when the Xbox 360 came out (when I was still at the University of Maryland), I dismissed it completely because of the lack of games, lack of a good TV to play on, and lack of people to play with. Fast forward 3 years and the Xbox 360 has become a viable platform for media streaming, a hub for HD downloadable Arcade games and demos, and has a many more games (at decent prices especially for the older games). I took the opportunity while on vacation in Eastern Maryland and Delaware (tax free) to pick one up at Costco nearly a week after the recent $50 price drop. So far I’m really liking what I’m seeing. Not to discount how good the PS3 is because of its unique ability as blu-ray player, but the Xbox fits right in there as the top HD gaming/media center system until Sony gets the price point right and/or blu-ray becomes mainstream enough to get those discs into my local library.
Recently I picked up a couple games including Castle Crashers on XBLA, Gears of War, Halo 3 Limited Edition, and Lost Odyssey to begin my 360 game collection. I assume those will last me a little while since I have lots of Wii games to still go through. I’d have to say that I’m playing Castle Crashers the most right now since it’s been quite a while from the last time I played a really good beat ‘em up game. One of these days I hope they make TMNT: Turtles in Time, Simpsons Arcade, and X-Men Arcade for XBLA (and yes, if you recognize these games, you’re getting old like me since they came out in the early 90’s). If anyone wants to play with me on Xbox Live, my gamercard is down at the bottom of the column on the right over there.
Another week, another good Prison Break episode. You can’t ask for more from the writers than finding a use for Mr. Brad Bellick. Somehow he found a way to do something for the team although Sucre can probably do just as good a job as evidenced when he stopped short in front of the first Scylla cardholder a couple episodes ago. How come neither of those two get to do any of the cool stuff like Lincoln? All three of them are probably about as smart as each other, so why can’t Lincoln clean a carpet or have a tantrum at a ticket counter? Lastly I have a little clip for everyone, another “Cole Pfeiffer” special.
So last night was the finale of America’s Got Talent which I’ve been following since June. Nuttin’ But Stringz was one of the acts which caught my eye early on and I picked them to win it all right from the start. I’ve previously seen them promoting Major League Baseball and the NCAA and was a fan even before I knew they would try out for the show. I wasn’t surprised when they made it all the way up to the Top 5, but after the episode last night I’m convinced that either the show itself is rigged or America’s voters must be some of the dumbest people on the face of the earth.
